Kylie Cosmetics Mini Mattes (Birthday Edition) – Review & swatches

Kylie Cosmetics lipstick birthday edition

Those who follow me on social networks know that a few weeks ago, I fell for the cosmetics brand of the youngest Kardashian:Kylie Cosmetics by Kylie Jenner. And when I say that I “fell”, it’s a bit soft. It went almost obsessional when they released the National Day shades, at the same time of me dreaming of the perfect dark blue lipstick. So I waited for the next restock at midnight (here), and I just bought Candy K and Freedom.

However, I won’t introduce these to you today because you may already know them very well; but I’m going to show you the Mini Mattes Birthday Edition which was released on August 1, in honor of Kylie 19th birthday (August 12)! I ordered them during the first stock at midnight, I got my package on August 8 without any customs or transport fees. A speed record, and therefore major savings. : ‘D

The Birthday Edition isn’t just a repackaging since many new products have been created alongside lip products. You can now get an eyeshadows palette, two cream shadows, a bronze liner… Anyway, I’m just looking forward to the black liner, potential eyebrow products and why not some false lashes to see if it’s as worth as the exiting products.
You can get the full the Birthday Edition set for $ 200. I confess that I could have buy it if it didn’t include too many products that I liked not thaaat much, like the golden gloss and lippie, bronze liner and cream that are too close to what I already have. Still, this is a certain amount of money. Yet I was so attracted by the new shade called Leo, so what a pleasure to discover a small kit that contains 6 minis … including Leo!

Just like that, my sister and I bought these Mini Mattes $ 36 per unit before they sold out in 2min.

Kylie Cosmetics Mini Matte include of 6 minis of the shades: Exposed, Dolce K, Koko K, Candy K, Kristen & Leo. I think that they couldn’t make any more perfect selection: nudes, classics and the newbies… What else?

All dressed in gold (infused with “real gold” apparently… meh. dun care) and in a durable and high quality plastic, the 6 minis have 0.65ml of products, which is ridiculously little compared to the full size (3.25ml). Note however that the brush is as large as the original, even less fluffy and more accurate.
I really like the design of the product ifself, nothing to say about it. Like the full size product, they smell vanilla! Looking down at all the lipsticks (liquid or solid) I have, there are the only ones that smell that way. YUMMY~

They are extremely pigmented and long lasting: Which basically means FLAWLESS. Kylie Cosmetics Lipsticks/Lipkits are among the best I’ve tried out so far. Still not convinced? They are cruelty-free. ❤️

Exposed is the most nude, strictly speaking, like flesh beige. I expected more from this shade because I wondered if I should buy the full size. The finish is a bit bland to me… A warm beige slightly orange, which is too clear to me. A simple matter of taste. :)

Dolce K

A bestseller shade, another nude but colder and brownish. It makes me think about my Gerard Cosmetics Iced Mocha: Beautiful on photos, but pretty bland with the rest of my casual makeup. I think it would suit  a very pronounced eye and face makeup, since it’s soft, nude and cold. It is very beautiful, but not alone.

Koko K

Geez, you gotta think that I don’t enjoy these Mini Mattes! But Koko K is probably the one I like the least. I was certain about that. A pale and cold mauve pink… Which doesn’t suit my complexion at all. Again, it is just a matter of taste, but I duuun like it.

Candy K

Let put the mark a little higher now : The cherry on the cake. Candy K! It represents absolutely everything I like in a lipstick. It would be perfect with some more peachy tones, but I LOVE it like that too. It is a warm pinky nude (still less pink than Koko K), but remaining very natural. It gives my lips a cute and pepsy look, just like improved natural lips!

If I wouldn’t have buy Kristen at first place, the Mini Kit certainly made me fall in love with this shade, at the end. Kristen is one of 3 summer shades: Maliboo, Kristen and Ginger. I find Maliboo way too light, but I loved Ginger since the beginning . Maybe I would have loved to see it in the kit, but I must admit that Kristen is a really good surprise: A warm and soft raspberry red, eye candy!

I was waiting so this shade so bad! Kylie rocks it, and I wouldn’t wait to make my own opinion. Leo appears much darker than what I thought: From afar, one could almost find it blackish. From experience, the burgundy shade is extremely difficult to apply evenly, but Kylie Cosmetics and their super formulation greatly facilitates the task. What do you think?

I don’t ask you if you already knew Kylie Cosmetics… But do you plan to buy some products? Which one is your fav?

Skin exfoliation with silk cocoons ? (COSRX)

COSRX cocons de soie

No, you aren’t dreaming: I just used the term “skin exfoliation” and “silk cocoon” in the title. None of the two terms mean something other than what you already imagine … But don’t be scared: no worm was hurt during the writing of this blogpost. (;

Skin exfoliation with silk cocoons

Small disclaimer about the “cruelty-free controversy” of this product: Some people say that they have killed and extracted worms from their cocoons, others are struggling to affirm that they were already transformed into butterflies. I like to believe in the second one. ♡

The composition of silk cocoons is very similar to skin proteins. Indeed, silk contains 12 amino acids which are useful for all skin types, of all ages. These cocoons allow therefore a totally natural exfoliation, cleansing, moisturizing and firming effect when you rub it on your face.

Before you wonder how you could possibly rub that little dry and rough shell on your skin, be sure to soak it in hot water for 2 ~ 3 minutes. Once softened, insert your finger in and massage your skin with circular motions.

cosrx-cocons-soie-3 cosrx-cocons-soie-4cosrx-cocons-soie-5

Each cocoon can be used 4 ~ 5 times. You just have to make sure to rinse them properly, dry them and keep them in a hygienic place. Don’t forget to let them soak in boiling water before use to remove any possible bacteria that could fit there.

You should know that skin cells renew every 30 days : This is the time for cells to reach the surface of the skin: So I used these cocoons for 1 whole month, and I found that my skin texture was definitely more smooth and firm.

I have not seen any drastic moisture nor improvement on my sebaceous filaments, but exfoliation is clearly and immediately distinguishable, even more if you gently massage the cocoon on your lips, for example: They come out softer than ever!

In a nutshell, it’s a cool gadget. You can buy a set of 12 silk cocoons from the Korean brand COSRX on Fleurs du Japon for only € 5.90 ~ Give it a try, ok?

COSRX Oil-Free Ultra-Moisturizing Lotion : Underrated benefits of Birch Sap

COSRX Birch sap Lotion

Few weeks ago, I introduced you the benefits of donkey milk through my PongDang Cream review. Today, let’s talk about something just as natural as donkey milk, but so underrated : Birch Sap !

The Korean cosmetics brand COSRX puts this ingredient under the spotlights is its very new product Oil-Free Ultra-Moisturizing Lotion :

Birch Sap benefits

Birch sap is mostly consumed orally thank to its boosting, remineralizing and anti-oxidant effects. This is a very good cure for kidney and liver, but also for skin diseases such as eczema and psoriasis.
As for the skin, birch sap is known for its anti-oxidant and anti-aging benefits. It also stimulates cell renewal and protects the skin from stress, inflammation, UV rays, pollution, etc.
In short, a gem of nature that you probably did not suspect (yet) the potential!

TheCOSRX Oil-Free Ultra-Moisturizing Lotion (with Birch Sap) –okay this is clearly too long– tends to be an universal lotion, for all skin types and needs! It provides hydratation for dry, normal, combination, oily and sensitive skins, and also helps the protection and reconstruction of skin for a smooth and glowing skin.

Ingredients list of CosRX Oil-Free Ultra-Moisturizing Lotion (with Birch Sap)
Betula Platyphylla Japonica Juice, Butylene Glycol, Glycerin, Dimethicone, Betaine, Cetearyl Alcohol, 1,2-Hexanediol, Cetearyl Olivate, Sorbitan Olivate, Hydroxyethyl Acrylate/, Sodium Acryloyldimethyl, Taurate Copolymer, Sodium Lactate, Sodium Lactate, Ethylhexylglycerin, Sodium Hyaluronate, Allantoin, Panthenol, Xanthan Gum, Ethyl Hexanediol, Citrus Medica Limonum (Lemon) Peel Oil, Melaleuca Alternifolia (Tea Tree) Leaf Oil

  • The most present ingredient which goes by the name of Betula Platyphylla Japonica Juice, simply means birch sap. It represens not les than 70% of the composition, not bad !
  • Let’s note the Allantoin (healing and soothing), lemon peel oil (anti bacterial) and tea tree (anti oxidant).

This is, as usual, a very good composition from COSRX !

If you already knew the COSRX products, you won’t be disoriented by the minimalist packaging of this lotion.
The product texture is quite milky, my skin likes to absorb it. Its fragrance is pretty strong though… It smells like “tree”, I guess it is a good thing, right? This is not the most pampering fragrance I’ve been smelling these days, but it absolutely don’t bother me.

When I became aware of all birch sap benefits (also helps my general culture, I can tell!), I immediately suggested to my dad to test it out on his psoriasis. After the first application on his arm, it already itched a lot less! Stay tuned, but for my not-so-sensitive skin, it’s a jewel : This is a perfect moisturizing, soothing and purifying lotion.

NakeUp Face Waterking Cover Cushion : Skincare AND makeup ?

Nakeup Face cushion

Cushion creams and me are in a love story since they got famous in Korea, long before their Western adaptations. Curiosity has since given way to the Need: I absolutely can’t do without it now. I tested a dozen of different products since, but it seems that there are only my Etude House and Holika Holika reviews around. I promise that if you’re interested, I’d make my cushion creams’ top list !

Meanwhile, I want to introduce you one of them that would directly put to my top 3: The Nakeup Face Waterking Cushion Cover!

Nakeup Face is a young Korean cosmetics brand  I learn to discover thanks toTesterKorea‘s “Real Tester” event, one of my favorite online stores. Their prices are so cheap, and every of my orders are so huge that it’s still too shameful to be discussed. haha
The packaging is super sober: Black with a holographic touch, everything I love! I chose the 21 shade because it suits me the best in winter, but sometimes I go 23 when I get some tan.

This Waterking Cushion Cover tends to stand out through many points:

  • A very qualitative composition that combines extracts of propolis (revitalizing), lotus (cleansing and brightening), aloe vera (moisturizing and soothing), and rose water (softening). Just that !
  • Also, instead of using purified water, this cushion is made up of carbonated water to have a real airy finish while good covering.
  • It corrects and unifies even the most troubled skins through a flawless coverage.
  • Its texture does not file and does not oxidize: The complexion stays fresh for 24 hours, even if you do some touch ups. No cakey effect!
  • Its puff is anti-bacterial and limits the emergence and development of microbes.
  • It is an all-in-one product which has a SPF35 / PA ++ sun protection and acts as makeup base, foundation and BB cream.
  • Its texture clings to the skin for an immediate smoothing effect, besides its “brightening”, anti-wrinkle and protective benefits.

A patented formula that promises sooo much ! Let’s see what I’m really thinking about it.

Its texture is just perfect: airy but covering. You don’t really feel it on your skin, but you can see its effects! The application is super nice and you get an even complexion without much effort.

Note that this really smells good to me, and its glowy / dewy finish will please K-beauty junkies. If this is not your case, a powder will matify everything, don’t worry ! My combination to oily skin makes me powder my T-zone for a better stay, which is also very honorable even if I won’t say 24 hours.
Since I always add a little contouring, I never do touch-ups: This is the kind of gesture I have a lot of trouble making, I find it dirty …

My skin tends to blush easily, which is dotted with small acne scars. After the application, I find it smooth, radiant and even !

Get it on TesterKorea for a little less than 17$, love it !

PONY EFFECT That Girl : The review !

You seemed to enjoy a lot my first blogpost on the Pony Effect That Girl line last time, it makes me so glad ! So I edited it since its official release detailing the various products of the collection… Collection I just received from the brand itself ! I am so proud right now.

To avoid a third edit on this other Pony Effect blogpost, I have decided to inaugurate a real review from scratch ! I tried to make you a slightly different video that I use to film : No front camera, no first impressions, no voiceover … Just a kind of teaser to tempt you to buy it all !  Tell me what you think about it in the commentbox, I count on your sincerity. ♡

My big favs in this Pony Effect That Girl line are the Outfit Lipsticks! As I imagined, they are creamy and pigmented … They are just perfect. The colors have been carefully chosen to perfectly highlight (almost) every skin tones, and I am in LOVE with the pretty nude Noble Brunch, the plum Vibrant Club or the cherry on the cake, the cold and timeless Red that embodies Expensive Dinner.

Get it for about $16 each on the official store.

My second favs (ok I must admit, I like absolutely everything …) are these Illusion Nail Lacquers: In all my nailpolishaddict life, I have rarely seen such opaque polishes in a single layer. I always apply two coats because I’m used to, but the first one is completely opaque, this is awesome! As for the lippies, I believe that the colors are divinely chosen since they are for everyone through a deep blue, a sparkling emerald green or pepsy fuchsia, without forgotting the flakies top coat which will highlight any color. The bottles are stunning, that come with rather thick brushes (I love thick brushes.)

In short : Long lasting, ultra pigmented, easy to apply polishes and- oh yes, their packaging, can we talk about it ?
Get it for $12 on the official store.

It is now time to talk about the palette that drew a lot of attention since its release : the Fever Shadow Palette ! It hadn’t gather only great reviews since many reproached its poor pigmentation … And I think they weren’t that wrong :  In my first post, I noted that I probably wouldn’t have fallen for this palette… And even if I already changed my mind on “very Korean shades” like Ready To Party, Beautiful Liar and Drunk Dial as they are truly hypnotic and easily wearable (but please, let’s not talk about Bad Or Good.), the pigmentation is far from being great. In the video, you can see the “natural” swatches against swatches with a “magic water” (a simple wet brush could do the same thing) below :

It still works well, and the shades aren’t dusty at all.
Get it for about $30 on the official store.

The Luminous Contouring Palette is nothing special, but perfectly embodies the motto “simple but effective“. As I mentioned in the first post (that’s why it’s a bit difficult to speak twice on the same subject … #repeat), it is perfect for very fair skin types because the bronzers are very light, unlike our occidental makeup items. These are cold and brownish tones, nothing to do with some orange and shiny bronzers around here… Everything here is just about chic and simplicity.
Get it on the official store for about $30.

As an extra, I was so surprised to receive a Pony Effect clutch bag with the brand’s holographic storm. First reaction : “kjefhsjhsbfcsjhbfsjh ;__;” I NEED to take it with me everywhere !

In addition to this superb clutcb ag, there was a Pony Effect brush kit… Like, THE KIT Pony herself is using in the teaser (yes Margaux, this is normal.). The color is very unusual, but they are so soft: I love  the face brush, and the blending one. The others have short hair and I was afraid that they would make the shadows very powdery but it was not even the case. In short, I love them but I won’t talk about it too much because they are not on sale then it is a bit of taunting. :c

This line is a real jewel : The quality, the pigmentation, the choice of the shades, their packagings… I loved everything.
In a nutshell, i am in LOVE with Pony Effect, thank you for this first (and hopefully not the last) line !

Reconciliation Combo : Nars All Day Luminous & BeautyBlender

Foundations and I weren’t very good friends for years. More precisely since I discovered Korean BB Creams –and recently BB cushions which I love more than everything **– . I always say : “Why just hiding skin imperfection when we can apply something covering, moisturizing, sun protective, non-comedogenic and so many other things than just face paint?

That is basically my opinion on foundations. And to be honest, it has not changed yet.

Nevertheless, I have recently found an absolutely perfect combo which exceptionally includes two American brands (and which are obviously sold in France … phew ! ): I call BeautyBlender and Nars !

I don’t introduce you the BeautyBlender anymore : This singular sponge which swells when immersed in water that allows all complexion products (and more!) to have a very smooth and natural finish.

Earlier, I totally refused to pay almost €20 for a makeup sponge .. So I bought some no brand dupes on the Internet. At the beginning, I remember that I did’t even know that it should be used wet! haha (ignorance doesn’t kill anyone on this blog, fortunately (;) So I just forgot about them, without much conviction.

Then, the official French BeautyBlender website opened and there was 40% off on all products. So I asked some friends if they were interested and we ended with free shippings and €50 saving, yay !
I fell for the BeautyBlender Pro + solid soap kit for €18 instead of €31. It’s basically the price of one sponge, with its super cleanser for free. I chose the Pro black sponge because it seemed to have a better longevity, and optimizes long-wearing makeup.

The reCONCILIATION’s foundation : emotional rollercoaster

So why putting that price now and not earlier ? My makeup artist friend Mathilde recently told me that a product had finally dethroned her top 1 foundation of all time (MakeUp Forever), singing me the praises of Nars Luminous All Day Weightless Foundation.
The next day I received a -25% voucher at Sephora. The woman sold me the Deauville shade (Am I that clear?!), and advised me to apply it with my fingertips. The problem is that I HATE applying fondations with my fingers. I feel dirty. But I was faithful, took her advice the next morning and this was a drama: My face was like peeling off, the result wasn’t homogeneous at all and I was already seeing how much money I wasted.

I decided to start from scratch, this time with a face brush: The product made streaks all over my face … Couldn’t go out like that.
Then came to mind the little forgotten tool … Well, didn’t had anything to loose anymore right ? I put it under water several times and discovered a different texture. Without much hope, I first dab the product on my forehead and … the magic happens: The finish is smooth and imperceptible!

The succession

It was at that time that the promotion of original Beauty Blender fell into my hands, and I didn’t hesitate to buy it, to get a real idea : It was only a very good acquisition, in all points.
A clear and fully customized packaging, its Solid Cleanser installed under the star-sponge who stands in the middle of the base.
Unlike dupes who look like simple makeup sponges, the texture of the real BeautyBlender is a bit special: More flexible and porous, that quickly double in size once filled with water .

This is thanks to its airy texture that cleaning is extremely easy and effective. The soap is ergonomic, smells good and does his job very well, indeed ! Everyday you go with a clean sponge ready for use, while dupes are really hard to clean up quickly and become  real nests for bacteria. Up to you !

Focus on this magic foundation

I apply the foundation (I still struggle with this word…) area by area as it tends to dry very quickly. It is an oil-free product that is perfect for combination to oily skin, but unfortunalety not for dry skins… This is a two-phase product that must be shaken well before applying. (:

I would say that the coverage is medium to high, with a luminous finish, glowy but not too much. With a foundation as good as this one, I don’t want to add even more layers so I just pat my translucent finishing powder Skinfood Silky Finish Powder which helps my skin to stay matte and smooth!

Come on, I saved the best for last: this is NON-COMEDOGENIC ! I know that my face won’t break, and I love it. Its formula is quite great :

As usual, pictures speak louder than words then …

Generally at midday, my T-zone is oily and the edges of my nose are marked. This great Nars foundation has largely limited the damageeven if I was still slightly shiny.-

Its high coverage allows me to get a matte and flawless complexion by simply tapping my No Sebum pact powder from Innisfree when I’m not home. It’s so convenient to carry rather than loose powder!

This is my favorite complexion combo at the moment. Even when my skin is quite pretty and leave me alone, the application with a wet BeautyBlender is a real pleasure and Nars All Day Luminous Weightless Foundation deserves an excellent rating.

Disclaimer: When I speak of fools, I speak of unbranded and very cheap found on the Internet. Similar sponges at Real Techniques and company are to me just as powerful as the original BeautyBlender. :)

These products are now my safe bets. Which one are yours ?

Too Faced Le Grand Chateau : Early Xmas !

Too Faced and I, this is a great love story for years. I didn’t collect a lot of products (yet) as it physically arrived in Lyon since barely a year, but I diligently follow their events from social networks.
The Cocoa Contour, Chocolate Bars, La Crème lipsticks and the famous Everything’s Nice Christmas 2014 palette, I dreamed of them all. I just needed the new Xmas collection to be under the banner of Paris to make me fall, literally. After all, I am French ! #selfpersuasion

For the record, I immediately fell for le Grand Palais that I got delivered from the website, with 25% off. My impulsivity calmed down and I eventually decided to go read some review from the Internet and…  cold shower: Whether on Sephora US or via other French bloggers, opinions were almost unanimous: Disappointing! The shadows seemed very dusty and not very pigmented. Strange for a product wth such a stunning packaging…
So I discovered le Grand Chateau, little less expensive and yet so much more promising. (So I returned the Grand Palace and it broke my heart :'( …). I got it for €35  (25% off) : the deal of the YEAR!

The packaging itself is meant to be a gift.

toofaced-grandchateau toofaced-grandchateau1

When opened, we discover a beautiful case that looks like a Frenchy doll house, which includes three lovely palettes with 18 eyeshadows, 2 blushes, 1 bronzer and 1 deluxe version (means miniature) of their best-selling mascara Better Than Sex.
toofaced-grandchateau2 toofaced-grandchateau4 toofaced-grandchateau7

Like the packaging, the palettes and shadows themselves are bearing the image of Paris through names slightly wobbly, but it gives them some charisma !

Paris In Love owns my favorite eyeshadow of all time: Fleur. I won’t use it everyday, but I find it absolutely fascinating. A real gem.
This is a nice palette whose dominant color is pink and its name is very accurate because you can easily use it for pretty romantic makeups. All shadows are iridescent except for Amour which is a simple white base. The “Jolie” bronzer lets me confused because I do not understand both matte highlighters aaand iridescent bronzers. Something is wrong here. haha

The shadows have a very good texture and pigmentation, I have absolutely no complaints.

toofaced-grandchateau10 toofaced-grandchateau11

Paris After Dark is a real bomb to make smoky eyes through its iridescent pinkish base, its deep matte black, and its ideal taupe-purple shade to fade everything together. Très Chic and Provence will bring a festive touch with their glitter finish, and meanwhile Parfait is … Parfait : A very pigmented nude-rose-gold, which I can’t get enough of it. Nothing to complain about this palette, the pigmentation is also good for all except Le Marais which leaves me unsatisfied. I do not find them very dusty, except perhaps Très Chic because of its glitter but it remains beautiful. It’s all about compromises. ;)
This palette includes cold pink blush. It’s not my favorite (wait till you see Mademoiselle !), but it proves that each pallet is sufficient unto itself.
toofaced-grandchateau13 toofaced-grandchateau14

Paris Au Naturale (Too Faced: Do NOT hesitate to call me whenever you need French words, because my ears bleed haha. This is “Paris Au Naturel”.) is, as its name suggests, a palette of very nude and warm shades ; the kind of makeup that any beauty junkie absolutely can not live without ! It is the only one of the three pallets that contain as many matte shadows.
Pot Du Crème (beware, my ears still bleed – Pot DE Crème) is in my opinion the most pigmented base of three palettes: Ideal for any makeup ! Fifi is a perfect nude to melt them all, while Oui and Merci and will give power to any look. Bonjour is, unsurprisingly, my little favorite of this palette! I am tirelessly attracted to golden shadows. :( This one is particularly hot, creamy and pigmented!
Oui is very dusty, but so beautiful … A beautiful black sprinkled with golden glitter, the perfect combo for chic but festive looks.
Mademoiselle is a pretty coral blush that beautifies all skin tones, a real pleasure!
toofaced-grandchateau16 toofaced-grandchateau17

You now can understand that each of Grand Chateau stunning palettes is self-sufficient to accomplish different types of makeup. In the end, we are left with a range of colors and textures to perfect and complete every looks.

The shadows are well pigmented, some more dusty than others but nothing dramatic to me : You want glitter or you don’t! ;) The blush / bronzers delight the tastes of everyone.

toofaced-grandchateau6 toofaced-grandchateau8

The Grand Chateau is an ultra limited edition only available in Sephora stores for € 45 / $49. I don’t regret my purchase at all and this case still amazes me. I think this is definitely the perfect gift for any beautista. I sincerely don’t see how Too Faced could do better than that!

Klairs Illuminating Supple Blemish BB : Worth a try ?

I’m back with a new product to introduce to you, even if the brand might already be familiar to you through my last blogpost about the Rich Moist Soothing line.
Today, I’m going to write about a very promising BB cream, which is already quite popular among beauty blogs since it seems to be amazing.

This BB cream promises to :

  • Adapt to the complexion: 3/5

If there is one thing that completely frustrates me in this cool product is its UNIQUE shade. Why Klairs, WHY ? The pigmentation is still very present, but I believe that their “smart color system” was a risky bet : It is slightly too clear to me. Nothing dramatic, but I have to be objective and that point is not really respected in my opinion, imagining that it won’t fit the lightest and darkest complexions.

  • To adapt to all skin types (dry to oily, through sensitive and acne-prone): 4/5

I only have one skin so it seems a bit tricky to answer for them all, but having read my girls with very dry skin who have enjoyed this, my combination skin liked it too ! Note that this is a non-comedogenic product (which does NOT cause nor stimulate acne) which is absolutely not negligible for me.
Concerning its promise of controlling sebum… it’s not very disappointing but not great though: My T-zone is shiny by the end of the day, but once again it’s not dramatic compared to other general products. It has a dewy finish, so I think it’s still doing its job well that can not be compared with mattifying products.

  • To brighten the complexion: 5/5

We really can’t say it doesn’t: No grayish neutral sub-tone out there, this BB is very brightening. A picture is worth 1000 words.

I enjoyed this BB, but I still am a bit disappointed because I would have liked a small variation of shades for my girls (since it fits me pretty well), and a cushion version, oh yes !! (I will email them, seriously. haha)
The fact that it is non-comedogenic makes me want to advise it to all acne-prone skins. It won’t to cure acne, but you can doll yourself up with this product : This is already a good point, and a very good reason to stop foundations!
Note that it also has anti-wrinkle agents (yes, it doesn’t hurt anyone, even teens. haha) And a good sun protection (SPF40 PA ++).

Still, I find it a bit pricy : I think the brand should review it downwards. This is still a good investment in my opinion, it is far below western luxury complexion products, which however has a quite good ingredients list.

This BB cream really suits all skin types. Ultimately, it is a successful bet for Klairs!

Klairs Rich Moist, my cocooning friend

October just started and the summer warmness seems to be definitively gone. No more fresh and light skincare routines, hello intense moisturizing and nutrition!

Every year, I try to find the golden mean for my combination and troubled skin (dilated pores, small acne, redness, etc.). Last winter I felt for for theSteam Cream from Sea Tree-that I still like-, and this year my partner will go by the pretty name of Dear Klairs.

Klairs ?

Since 2009, Dear Klairs (or just Klairs) remains true to itself. Cruelty-free but not eco-friendly though, It’s a sober yet chic brand with a single flagship line: the « Rich Moist Soothing » one. La mode se démode, concepts and trends change. But according to Klairs, the skin will always need the same thing: Moisturing and soothing.

With essential ingredients for a healthy, balanced skin as hyaluronic acid and beta glucan, the Rich Moist line targets all skin types : Dry, combination, oily, sensitive, or reactive skin. All skin types need hydration and Klairs understood us by creating an ultra smooth line for skins that need to be comforted with the winter coming.

This is a quite small yet well-known Korean brand that has nothing to envy to K-beauty giants. It is produced and redistributed almost exclusively by the firm WISHCOMPANY and their e-shop WISHTREND (coucou Marie-Anne. ♡)

The great «  Rich Moist Soothing » line

At first, I was skeptical when I got to know this line. Not that I thought it was bad for my skin -on the contrary: although Klairs is not organic and eco-friendly, the ingredients are still pretty good-, it’s just that I always aim at oil-controlling and keeping my acne faaaaar from me, especially when I tried to not end up like a frying pan all summer. So « rich » products immediately inspire me a useless nutrition/sebum food.

Set aside my prejudices, I finally fully understood the title : Rich. Moist. MOIST. RICH-MOIST. So, it changes everything right ? As soon as weather is getting cold, I don’t drink a lot of water and my skin is almost yelling at me, constantly dehydrated. Seeing this intense moisturizing line that seemed suitable for all skin types makes me want to give it a try and here’s my review.

Supple Preparation Facial Toner

klairs2 klairs3

Let’s say it : This toner is the smoothest I have ever met. It looks like an essence ! Though it finishes cleaning up my face, purifies and moisturizes at one point we almost forget for the rest of the skincare routine… Toners are known to be drying as hell, even my combination skin if I leave it alone for like 2 minutes.

This is however a real treat. It balances the pH of the skin, which allows the rest of the routine to be more effective.

ingredients list
Water, Butylene Glycol, Dimethyl Sulfone, Betaine, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Natto Gum, Sodium Hyaluronate, Disodium EDTA, Centella Asiatica Extract, Glycyrrhiza Glabra (Licorice) Root Extract, Chlorphenesin, Tocopheryl Acetate, Carbomer, Panthenol, Arginine, Luffa Cylindrica Fruit/Leaf/Stem Extract, Beta-Glucan, Althaea Rosea Flower Extract, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Extract, Hydroxyethylcellulose, Fragrance, Portulaca Oleracea Extract, Lysine HCL, Proline, Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate, Acetyl Methionine, Theanine, Retinyl Palmitate, Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Copper Tripeptide-1

In this toner, key ingredients are the amino acid (anti-inflammatory), phyto-oligo (great hydration) and Centella Asiatica for its regenerative and healing properties.

So YES it’s true : when it comes to combination/oily skin, we tend to turn to much more acidic, drying toners. But tugging your skin in winter (oh it’s not winter yet?) is really the worst thing to do: It will turn very sensitive and dry… So I believe that this toner is really suitable for all skin types. Use it as much as you want !

Rich Moist Soothing Serum

Here is another product for all skin types, but significantly more targeted for dry skins which need extra moisture. Remember : Even oily skins need moisture as bodies need water. Including an extra moisturizing serum into your routine will never ever be bad for your skin !

It is a transparent and odorless serum that blends very well into the skin. The finish is quite sticky when you pat it, but not for so long. You may think I’m a weirdo, but I like the stick side. Makes me pat longer. ;p

ingredients list
Water, Sodium hyaluronate, Butylene glycol, Peg-60 hydrogenated castor oil, Dimethyl sulfone, Betaine, Natto gum, Disodium edta, Centella asiatica extract, Glycyrrhiza glabra (licorice) root extract, Carbomer, Arginine, Lysine hcl, Proline, Sodium ascorbyl phosphate, Acetyl methionine, Theanine, Chlorphenesin, Tocopheryl acetate, Illicium verum(anise) fruit extract, Citrus paradisi(grapefruit) fruit extract, Nelumbium speciosum flower extract, Paeonia suffruticosa root extract, Scutellaria baicalensis root extract, Panthenol, Luffa cylindrica fruit/leaf/stem extract, Beta-glucan, Althaea rosea flower extract, Aloe barbadensis leaf extract, Perfume, Portulaca oleracea extract, Apium graveolens (celery) extract, Brassica oleracea capitata (cabbage) leaf extract, Brassica oleracea italica (broccoli) extract, Brassica rapa (turnip) leaf extract, Daucus carota sativa (carrot) root extract, Oryza sativa (rice) bran extract, Solanum lycopersicum (tomato) fruit/leaf/stem extract

Let’s note once again the key moisturizing ingredients, which deeply protect your skin. When I used this serum, I was unconsciously reassured because my skin was actually very well moisturized.

Rich Moist Soothing Cream

klairs6klairs7 klairs8

If I could give one good point to my summer skincare routine, it is the moisturizing gels: Watery and much lighter than creams, I feel that my skin is breathing while having its daily moisture. Creams are often too rich for me, sometimes I’d like to finish my routine with serum / emulsion / eye cream and nothing else..

This small pot promises to seal the natural moisture of the skin as well as the one that you have lavished in the rest of the routine… This cream immediately moisturizes the skin, on the short and the long term.

Keep it by your side from October to March, and your skin will be thankful !

This is a line that clearly targets dry and dehydrated skin, BUT it’s still formulated so that all skin types can enjoy its benefits.

I’ll say it once more : I have combination to oily troubled skin (more I say, the more I find that it’s really not a gift from God…), but my skin has greatly appreciated this line: It’s plumped, moisturized and full of vitality ! It just does not treat blemishes, so I like to alternate between this line and a more acne-focused routine, or even a bit of both depending on the day and mood.

Congratulations, and thank you for that must-have line, Klairs!

Now, I want to get, try and review the cleansing line that seems to target more combination to oily skin… Ambitious !

Kat Von D Shade Light : XXL Contouring palette

In my previous post, I was telling you how hard it was to know what to bring back home from the US, “cosmetically speaking”. I already reviewed the fav of my favs : Tartelette matte eyeshadows palette from Tarte… But it’s not the only palette I bought, back there !

Since this one isn’t an eyeshadows palette, I guess you’ll be okay for one more. Say hi to the Kat Von D Shade Light contour palette !

I hesitated so much between Too Faced’s Cocoa Powder, ABH’s Contour Kit and that one from Kat Von D. The three cost approximately the same. First, I had a preference for the Too Faced’s since it is the only one of three that includes a cheek brush, and well.. It’s Too Faced ! But I thought that it would eventually be released in France sooner or later, and I’ll be able to get it someday if I really want to.

However, when I asked you on Twitter and even to the MUA from Sephora, you were completely unanimous : KAT. VON. D ! Well, here is it. :)

This is one of the largest (contouring) palette I saw on the shelves. It is really HUGE. The packaging is matching well the brand image; dark and a bit goth ! The package back reveals the colors of the 6 palette powders : 3 highlighters called Lucid, Lyric and Levitation as well as 3 bronzers called Dark, Shadowplay and Subconscious.
Note however that the colors of the packaging (and even on the small flyer inside) aren’t the same as IRL : The real powders are actually so much prettier.

The powders are matching vertically : The first column Lucid/Dark has nice pink sub-tones, while the Lyric/Shadowplay duo is rather golden beige and Levitation/Subconscious have warmer, peach/orange tones.
These three duos are actually made for the three main sub-toned complexion; an universal and modulable palette that will go to all skin tones !

The Shade Light Palette powders are odorless and completely matte. Between this one and the Tartelette, I’m starting to wonder « Where are the glitters in my life ?! »
It is also the only point that I don’t really appreciate in this product because I like catchy and glittery highlighters ! I think matte highlighters are a bit boring and useless. D:

HOWEVER, bronzers are very pigmented so be careful when applying it for the first time or you’ll end with two dark strips in the middle of your cheeks hehe.

If you are looking for something very simple, subtle and natural : This palette is perfect. But if like me, you like to add something fresh and catchy in your daily makeup, keep your favorite highlighter by your side ! I like to use the Etude House’ Secret Beam, but the liquid one from Stila is completely obsessing me lately.

Instinctively, I immediately started using the second duo (Lyric / Shadowplay) because the first was a bit dull and the third clearly too dark. Levitation almost look like a peachy blush !
I apply Shadowplay with my Zoeva cheek brush at the base of the palm of my cheeks and I stretch without reapplying some to keep the shadows as subtle as I can. Then I apply Lyric with a hint of Levitation on the top of my cheekbone and I eventually add a little shimmer with my Secret Beam.

In a nutshell, this Shade Light palette has infinite possibilities thanks to its 2 × 3 powders that allow to find “the perfect shade” for your complexion, but also for your taste!

Considering its size, I don’t think I’ll ever finish it. Especially when I know that I will clearly not use all the shades ! But I believe that this is the perfect product for MUA and makeup junkies in general. ~
If I could go back to Sephora Times Square, I think I would rather fall for the Anastasia Beverly Hills’ or Too Faced’s one, which are smaller but equally competitive !
